Nature of Work
The exact nature of the work which the intern will do depends heavily on two interactive factors: the intern and her/his qualifications and interests; and the projects and the programmes which ViKAS Centre is engaged at the time s/he is with us.
It is important to us that an internship with ViKAS Centre is a valuable experience for both parties. This means that our goals and aims should be furthered through the work the intern does while s/he is able to grow professionally, maximising the benefit gained from being with us. For this reason, we start off by developing a work-programme, to give clear structure to interns' time with us (although naturally it remains flexible).
The internship involves a variety of job roles including project management, reasearch work combining field work at the national, state, district or village level, as well as data analysis and report writing, culminating in a final presentation in Mohali - Chandigarh at the end of the internship period.
In order to ensure rewarding learning experiences, ViKAS Centre has established separate internship positions focused on core areas of ViKAS Centre's work: Development, Management, Network/Database handling, policy & Planning, Research & Surveys,
Development - Interns participate in various development activities to benefit the focus groups such as Children, Adolescent Girls and women, Youth, Old aged, Challenged & disabled, poor & deprived, or issues such as empowerment and social justice, education and life skills, economic development and livelihood sustainence, healthcare & HIV / AIDS, environment and conservation, etc..

The interns/trainees follow a set pattern of selection process and are offered well-rewarded internships. Interns, or Trainees, can come from almost any discipline, from any part of the world, though ideally s/he would come from a background which is of direct relevance to our work.
Interns work exclusively on dossiers under the supervision of the Centre Manager. Traineeships at ViKAS Centre are based on a win-win partnership: on the one hand, we are very selective in recruiting the trainees, and we will ask from them a lot of thought and seriousness; but on the other hand, we commit ourselves to giving them a solid and complete traineeship and enriched experience.
Thus, at ViKAS Centre we look forward to people who are intellectually motivated, curious and committed to work in their chosen field of interest. An easy-going attitude is therefore indispensable.
